2009 XC70 T6 Electrical Issue

Post by cscottrun4it »

Hi all,

This is my first time on this site and posting a question. Here is my electrical issue: I went to start my XC70 T6 (2009) to roll up the windows and close the sunroof because it was beginning to rain. (I was car camping with a bunch of 4th graders.) My Volvo would not start, however, and yet the turn signals on the headlights were flashing. So, I jump started the car using another person's jumper cables. I did not notice anything strange when the car was jumped, but after jumping it, a number of the car's electronic features did not work. These features are all associated with fuses 17 - 20:
  • F17 - Overhead courtesy lighting,Control panel driver's door/Power passenger seat (option)
  • F18 - information display
  • F19 - Power driver's seat (option)
  • F20 - Tailgate wiper
None of these fuses has been blown, however.

My suspicion is that this bank of fuses is associated with a circuit breaker, but I can find no information about the car's 5 circuit breakers in terms of what they are protecting. (Let me guess, there is a secret Volvo handshake for this information?)

I would really appreciate any insight anyone has about this mystery in the fuse box.

Best,
Christopher

WHen the battery gets weak it can create oddities in modern cars. The way things are powered up is all microprocessor driven and not direct switched as with older autos.
Your car is at the age where batteries expire so I suspect the battery went weak enough for one of the modules to go offline and it entered a protection mode or a good old fashioned microprocessor lockup occurred like PC's were so well known for in the not too distant past.
Often the issue resolves itself on the next key on after a long (3hours or more) rest. The modules will all go into full hibernate after a longer off period. If that doesn't do it then battery disconnect for 20 min usually will do a hard reset.
In any case get battery checked. The OE batteries on late 2000's Euro makes like to have cases cracked at battery posts, especially the ground (-) post.
Locking and unlocking with remote will exit the car from trnasport mode but transport mode doesn't turn off instrument cluster.
