I bought an '89 760 Turbo Intercooler Wagon about two months ago. When I bought the car I watched the former owner try to enter the code on the sr-7145 radio (with tp 7145) while the display showed 'codE'. He had just replaced the battery.
After 3 attempts the unit locked down and displayed 'OFF'. I later learned from the manual that the 'aut' button must be depressed after entering the code, he hadn't read the instructions. The manual claimed that the unit would reset after 24 hrs.
I have the original code card but am unable to get the unit to reset to the 'codE' mode. I've tried everything from changing the 3-amp fuse on the back of the radio, I tried pulling the radio fuses for a day, I tried disconnecting both the reciever and tape player for a week, I tried disconnecting the battery, I tried leaving the ignition key on the first click then leaving the radio power on (with the display still showing 'OFF') for 2 hrs...4 hrs....12 hrs....my battery died after about 18 hrs but I was trying to reach 24 hrs.
Does anybody have any ideas? Is there an internal reset switch? Is there a condition where the radio will not reset?
