Hello,
I just bought my first Volvo a few weeks ago. It's a '96 960 with 112K, pretty nice overall. Once in a while when I start the car for the first time in the morning I sometimes have to coax it to idle by pushing on the accelerator. It then idles up and down a little bit, evens out and drives fine after that. Could this be the idle control valve? Where is it on a 960?
I saw the write-up for cleaning on the 850 model, but I'm assuming the two don't match up.

It could be the valve, if you remove it and give it a gentle twist motion the valving should move quite easily. Also if you have an ohm meter you can check for resistance on the valve. There are three pins and if you measure across pins 2 and 3, you should see 10-14 ohms. Looking at the connection point, there are two grooves on one side on one on the opposite side that match the plug. With the two grooves at the top, from left to right it is 3, 2, 1.
Also, I would look for an air leak in the air ducting after the MAF, also the oil trap fittings and hoses.
