Is there a plug missing in this cam shaft cover?

There is a rather large opening in the center of the cam shafts cover, between the center plug and the one to it's right in my photo.

I can't see to the bottom of it. It looks as if it's half closed off about 3/4 of an inch inside of it, as can be seen in the photo. I could not see any evidence of a loose plug when I pulled off the plastic cover over the plugs, but I'm not the first one to change plugs on this car.

There was a fair amount of oil puddled in the crevices of this aluminum cover. All the plug wells had oil around the hex of the plugs. The 2nd and 3rd plugs from the passenger side had oil up near the top of the hex on the plugs. All the rubber plugs that close the spark plug wells were wet with oil, especially the ones shown in the photo above.

I'm trying to figure where the oil is coming from. If there is a missing plug that should go into that hole, that's a good place to start I guess.

That is not a hole, it gets sealed around its edges. Well it's a hole, but not a problem. You are not the first, that question has been asked many times and rightly so.

There are two places the pooling oil comes from:
(1) the oil cap, when its rubber gasket gets old and hardened.
(2) that hose visible on the left of your photo, when the PCV is clogged.

Car likely needs PCV service and a new oil cap gasket. Tons of posts about both of them if you want to do some free reading.
