transmission interchangeability

I have a 1996 Non turbo wagon, the transmission is shot. I found a used tranny out of a non turbo 1993, is it possible to swap them or are the computers different?

The ECU's are totally different on the '93 than the '96 and my guess is that the TCU is different as well. That said, the transmission may work fine with your existing ECU and TCU pair.

VADIS does shows two different transmissions with unique part numbers for "to 1993" and "1994 and on" though so I would have my doubts that it could be a plug and play drop in.

You can use 96-98. 93-95 used a speed sensor on the back of final drive case and the 96-98 have the equivalent sensor on the top of gearbox mid-case. You can use a 99 if you change the speed sensors out with the ones off your 96 box. 99 N/A have digital sensors and your 96 would be analog type

I used a '96 in a '99 after swapping speed sensors and the little PNP selector lever which is black on the '99s and is machined to a different static angle on the '99s (so just use the original one to avoid having to lengthen the selector cable)

Apart from final drive ratio which is taller on turbos you should be fine.
