I was looking at getting a 93 volvo 940 turbo wagon in decent shape with 180,000. I know that it has the over drive problem. price is $2200.
the other option is a 95 960 wagon in real good shape with 90,000 for $2700.
does anyone have any prefrence and is there uch difference other than the motors. Is the 2.3 4 cylinder better than the inline 6 og the 960.
thanks for any responses
jason

well, to this end I would just like to note that the 940 turbo literally has the same torque ratings as a 960, so all else equal, the fun factor would be about the same, although the extra horsepower in the inline-6s will pull faster acceleration ratings.
With the 940 you will enjoy the proven reliability of the long-running red-block engines. With the 960 you'll enjoy the smoothness of overlapping ignition events (120 degrees/6cyl versus 180 degrees/4cyl) and the overall quietness within the cabin. However, the inline-6 does need more care and attention than the inline-4, and this IS where it depends on how well a 960 was previously maintained.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the 940 series was dumped two years before and in favor of a renewed 960/S90. The additional years of the 960 means that repair parts will be in circulation for longer.
