best product for plastic bumper trims?
best product for plastic bumper trims?
I saw the same year model car as mine ('01 Crosscountry), but gratefully unlike my car, all the bumper trims on this car looked sunbleached, absolutely no luster whatsoever. Today my bumper trims look great, and to keep them looking their best, what product should I use? I've only owned the car for several wks and havent purchased any new detail goods... been using basic Armoral.
I only used Armorall once on back bumper, but figured there has to be something better, thanks for the suggestion... I presume i can get "forever black" at any Autozone store.JRL wrote:Armorall is probably the WORST thing you can use.
Use a good "black" product such as Forever Black and KEEP THE WAX OFF IT

I have a 2001 v70xc . It is dark blue and the bumpers are a blue, so I can't put black on it. I am going to go to an auto paint and body shop to get a product they recommend. They usually have superior products .
Sometimes when you go to those auto stores they really are not more than a department store selling auto products with kids working the counter and ringing up sales and really not knowing what product is best . It's like going to Home Depot and asking the lumber guy something about plumbing.

I should've heeded Bob100's warning below, but picked up "Black Magic" from Autozone, and applied per directions (last night), and when i got out in the sun today my bumper looked darker but horribly blotchy!!!!JRL wrote:Actually Forever Black is hard to find.
Google it and I'm sure you'll find someone who sells it.
BMW stores usually have it (at inflated pruces)
Since BMW is only a 10 min drive from my house so i went to the Parts Dept and asked for "Forever Black," and the guy said they don't use any products on their auto bumpers "... we just wash it, and recommend not using any products that are silicone based... you can find 'Forever Black' at any Walmart store." hmmmm... so drove across the road to Walmart and nada.

Go to the IPD USA website and look at their cleaning and restoration products. They have Black Again and black bumper paint for the unpainted parts of the bumpers. I have used a product similar to Black Again on my 1997 T-5 bumpers and trim. It lasts a long time and the results are pretty good. Like anything, it takes some trial and error to get the best results. I have a 2001 XC that needs the treatment. I haven't had time yet. Let me know how it works out. It seems that there is a difference in the "grain" between the 97 and the 01 on the black trim.
