Project XC90 "T5"

Post by boosted5cyl »

Wife loves the '04 XC90 2.5T AWD we have Except for one thing, it's not a patch on the V70 T5 we had in terms of performance.

Sure, off the line for about 60ft it punches like a beast but after that its out of puff and this really shows on the freeway.
Looking for input on what would be the most cost effective approach to get near the '98 V70 T5 on power/weight while still having a tractable motor. I guess a chip would be a good place to start?

Looks like I'll need around 315HP at the peak to bring this rolling bank safe in ballpark on power to weight and at that would be a little ahead on power to drag.
Can the motor and transmission handle this relatively safely?
I know the 2.5 in the 850 and V70 wasn't really much of a motor for tuning, is that still the case for the model in the '04 XC90?

(and yeah maybe could have gotten the V8, but no way in hell I was going to roll the dice on an '05 V8 ;) )

Lucky is very experienced and can probably give you a tune that gets you near what you are looking for. 315 HP may be more than you want to spend. That level may require a turbo and injectors.

So what if you need turbo and injectors? It's just money and rather than trying to take it with you, put it in the car...

:D :D :D

Can't talk now, gotta go change the oil on the T5, filter it with a coffee filter, and put it in the MIL Nissan. I do care about her car. I use Melita filters.

I can think of better places to put that money before I "transition" than the vehicle that has the roadholding and poise of a drunk pig on rollerskates LOL ;)

LOL. I felt the same way driving a Highlander on a small, windy country road. It actually made me sick.

So you're an XC90 owner now eh?

Somewhere around 250-270 HP feels great in most SUVs. Unless its a giant behemoth like a Suburban. Probably a much more easily attainable number too.

Yep, Angus been with us for a couple of months now. Wife is whining its not as quick as the wagon. No **t LOL. Not a fan of the shock valving in the XC, but I dont have to drive it that much and overall it is a great family vehicle. For the third row alone im glad we went for it over an X5.

All the "good" V8's were more than we were willing to spend, so 2.5T it was.
