'01 XC70 Steering Wheel creaks when I turn--WD-40?

Post by Spoleto »

a week after having my horn repaired, a strange creaking noise occurs when I turn my wheel... not at every single turn, but enough to annoy me, I mentioned to a neighbor mechanic and he suggested WD-40, could it be that simple? And if that will do the trick, WHERE exactly do I spray?

The earlier car had a bushing at the bottom of the steering clolumn at the collar that goes bad.
I'm not sure about the P2 cars but there are bushings that can go bad. Do NOT just "lube it"

well, i did try the wd-40, improved from dull creaking noise to a low squeak, will ask Volvo to check the bushing... thanks for that info!

Ok, you're gonna be a great source for me! :D Btw, though I didn't mention it earlier, that creaking noise coincided with a hissing noise I heard every time I accelerated, that noise seemed to come from underneath the car somewhere, and Volvo said that after they replaced the bushing which was down inside the steering column, that hissing noise ceased... could it have been as simple as the bushing, alone?

The bushing got moved so you were hearing all the sounds form underneath the car
