V40 2.0T low engine power

Post by shanegtr »

Just a quick question regarding my recently brought a 1999 V40 2.0T. I brought this one as it was by far in the best condition, although like any second hand cars there are a couple of problems that require fixing. I test drove a few and I can say that this one is definatly down on power compared to the other 2.0T engined cars I drove. There is no point in the rev range or throttle position that it looses power - its just gererally down on power all round. I relate to it that its exactly like Im driving a non turbo engined car as the power output feels excatly the same as a few of those that I drove. I have not got any equipment (yet) to check fault codes. Any suggestions on where to start looking for an issue?

I finally made a start at looking into this issue. Hooked up a vac/pressure gauge into the manifold and theres no boost what so ever. When the throttle body is closed theres vacuum as you would expect, but with the throttle wide open theres nothing either way, no vac and no boost pressure - gauge reading 0. Any suggestions on what to look at next? I know the wastegate actuator works fine as I've manually put pressure into that system, so to my thinking it only leaves the boost control solenoid and the turbo itself. Is there any way to check the function of the BCS?

Ok, I removed the red port hose from the BCS and took it for a test drive. No difference at all still the same. So I think I'm safe to assume that it's not the BCS causing the issues

Just thought I'd do a quick update to my thread. I've applied vacuum and pressure to the turbo recirculation valve, and it leaks down. So I've either got a split recirc diapraghm or a leak in the hose to manifold. Unfortantly it will be another couple of weeks before I have any time to pull the recirc valve to check it out. Once again I'll keep this thread updated when I find some more info
