740 Engine low on power

Post by Guffy »

Hello I just bought a Volvo 740 the car runs and idles fine but the moment I put it into gear and put the engine or load it has no power it tries to stall but won't stall I've drained the fuel tank since there was rotten fuel in it and put fresh fuel in

I'm thinking the fuel pump might be bad and the filter should be replaced

I'm new to owning a volvo. So any help would be appreciated

I had a 1989 740 GLT from new until late 1994. Every time the car had running issues it always was the airflow sensor. Volvo replaced it many times as I recall. I think it was a problem spot on those cars. June

In thinking further with hazy recollection the car would start, than die when in gear. I vaguely recall having to unplug the sensor to drive it in for service. While plugged in car as not driveable but would start and idle. June

I'll check all the suggestions. I should also give more info on the car it's a 89 wagon. I Did drive it home and it would randomly get power and take off but 90 % of the time it didint like driving

740 GL?
740 TURBO?
740 GLE-16 valve?
Engine? ... B230F LH 2.4, B230F Regina, B230F, B230FT.

Run the VIN number through the Volvo Tech VIN decoder and see what you can find out about the car.
