oil mixed with water and on ground after head gasket repair

Bad kharma to say the least it had BOTH a blown head gasket and a cracked block.

I didn't order the stuff to redo the head until I had the head off to make sure it was the the gasket.

It was very obvious the head gasket blew out between the cylinder wall and the water jacket right by the timing belt area. I wish I would have taken a picture to show you how bad it was.

That's incredible (in a bad way). You definitely used up all your bad luck and a whole bunch of mine (thanks BTW). I didn't even know these cars could crack like that. What would do that? Is a HG failure that catastrophic? That would take a ton of energy to blow out the side of the motor like that.

The ONLY time I've EVER seen a block crack like this is when it is below freezing out and the owner starts the car with no coolant in the system...

Obviously not stating that is the case here, just saying this is the only time I've ever seen this type of situation before.

If I remember correctly (like I said it happened about 3 years ago) I made a trip to North Dakota in the winter and it was REALLY cold. It was shortly before the problems started occurring ... I drove it all the way back to South Texas though.

Also, when I lost the coolant (here in South Texas) it was pretty much instantly because the radiator failed where the upper hose goes into it, and it completely detached. I was cruising along nicely at about 70 mph and suddenly had steam everywhere. The car quit, I coasted to the side of the road and and lifted the hood. The engine compartment was drenched with oil and water, and steam was coming off of everything.

Im beginning to think small crack in ND, propagating and then catastrophic failure in TX..
