Dear owners of XC90,
I´d like ask you for help with the parking brake.
Do you have experience the brake doesn´t work right and doesn´t hold on slight hill?
I "just" found advices to change adjustment, shoes and so on, but nobody mentioned what was the helpful and if it was successfully resolved.
It seems the sytem of the parking brake is done very unhappily.
I have alredy changed shoes, set the adjustment... Still issue...
Thank you for answers.

The question at hand is whether or not the e-brake should the car on a hill OR driveway with it in neutral if the parking pawl fails?

I have a 2006 xc90 and the E-brake sucks. I had the dealership adjust it, and it was better, but still not what it should be. They told me that it was adjusted all the way out. I paid to have NEW pads put in and it's still not sufficient.(alomost worse than prior to the first adjustment) How much "adjustment" is there in the cable to tighten the brake? The dealership is trying to tell me that there is no more available. They also say that "THE E-BRAKE IS ONLY A SUPPLEMENT TO THE PARKING PAWL. AND IS TO NOT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE"

I have a 2001 tundra that has 14 clicks to the floor. 7-8 clicks it will hold it in my driveway. if i go all the way down, it'll on damn near any grade i park on.

You might need to have the cables replaced if they stretched out too much.

Our parking brake sucks too. I hate relying on the transmission/park pawl for this. Good to know I might be wasting my time with adjusting it.

I dont know the XC90 series that well, but the V70 series uses an independent set of brake shoes (in drums) for the parking brake system. In this case, replacing rear pads makes no impact on E-brake operation.

Any e-brake should hold the car on any grade thats driveable, frankly.

THE E-BRAKE IS ONLY A SUPPLEMENT TO THE PARKING PAWL. AND IS TO NOT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE" "

I hate to lawyer up, but I wonder if their legal department signed off on that one??
