How to change headlight sprayer?

I need to change the headlamp sprayer (washer) on my XC90. Access is gained by removing the headlamp assy, but now what?? The sprayer cover is missing and the cover mount on the spray nozzle is broken, necessitating a new spray nozzle installation. The nozzle is housed in a 1" diameter tube and is spring-loaded to retract when water pressure is stopped. It looks like a small plastic tab on the spray tube shell that hooks down onto a serrated surface on the spray tube itself should allow the spray tube nozzle to be pulled from the tube shell once the tab is lifted so that it nolonger engages the serrated teeth. However, that doesn't appear to work. How do I remove the spray nozzle from the spray tube shell??
