Hi,
I do not feel confident in repairing the transmission and all offers I got were above 3000 Dollars.
I also need to get a running car soon so I can't wait several months. Acctually I need a running car within 4 weeks. My last hope was to swap in a used AW55-50 from another car. Does it have to be a Volvo?
I heard the also have them in Nissans and other brands.
If this all doesn't work I will sell the car to a junkyard or try to sell valuable parts.
Thanks for your help so far.
Max

Yeah Nissan Maximas of certain model years, Saab 9-3 and GM Saturns but there'll be enough detail changes to make it a difficult swap and the valve body will likely be unique to each car.
Good luck in finding some wheels.

Hello guys. Excellent topic about the ETM. Many thanks for all the work. I have a Non-turbo S60 8644345 Magnet Marelli which is broken. I think I understand almost everything, except 1 thing. To measure the voltage I have to use pin 1 and 3, I can do that. But can I trust those values when I have immediately code P2101, P0123 in the system?

If the value is between 1.28 and 1.46 volts typically this is a safe zone.
However those codes may not be just a TPS problem.
Check voltages at the loom and be sure the earth on the block is good contact.

Thanks,
The codes I got immediately after my first experience something was really wrong: P1651, P1610, P2101 and P0123.
If I reset the codes and I start ignition then the P2101 and P0123 pop up.
But now I will check the earth as well. I will clean the area and wires with break cleaner. My garage called Volvo NL and they pointed together out that this was typically the TPS.

Or lack of power to the TPS. Does it make the characteristic clicking noises when ignition is turned on?

This is what I hear. A very high beep whith in the background little crispy things. Then after a few seconds it is like a 'shutter' closes.

Thank you Yehuda, Precopster and other posters!!!Yehuda wrote:Hello yuckuJackD,
the sacer's sensor works great as it should, i haven't faced any problems related to it, it's very reliable from my experience.
BTW, if you can't find more friends to combine the order & you need it fast, i'm selling them on eBay.
here are links to the listings:

I ordered "Contactless TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) FIX Faulty Volvo & MASERATI ETM 99-02" at ebay. I followed the work you did and focused on minimize the heat expose and adjusted the magnet on the shaft at least 10 times before I got the voltage as close as possible. Cleaned and put everything back together and just HOPED! for the best and turned the ignition key. The idle was perfect and no codes regarding ETM!
Later i got code for MAF and bought a non-original for ~40% of original price (wanted to see if it would work). I also removed the air filter that was of sport model (one that is supposed to be sprayed with supplied oil) and replaced with a standard.
I have driven the car regurlarly for a year after the tps-repair and it runs great. I'm pleased with the fairly cheap repair as I bought the car, Volvo S60 T5 2001, for a low price because it was running crappy. It was a bit of a chance as I couldn't say for sure it was the TPS problem.
Once again thank you!
Best regards Peter from Umeå, Sweden
