No fuel no spark non turbo 940

Post by Gregg Koenig »

the car stopped running after stalling out a couple times, had a knock sensor code which I then replaced and got nothing. I have now replaced: coil, CPS, rotor, cap, wires, relays, fuel pump, ICU and still have no fuel or spark, when I replaced the ICU the car started then stalled after 10 seconds started again for about the same and stalled again and hasn't made a sound since. I plan on grabbing an ECU at the junkyard today. Fuses seem fine and wiring SEEMS fine, I jiggled the wires around while starting but you never know, I can't seem to get this thing going, it is a non turbo regina car with 175k on it. Any fresh ideas or helpful thoughts are great I'm basically out of them.

The crank position sensor (AKA RPM sensor) would be the first thing before fuel ECU. No spark causes no fuel and fuel ECU has nothing to do with spark. CKP sensor is behind and below back of cylinder head where it drops into a one bolt bracket to read flywheel tone ring.

The ignition control unit gets crank movement and position info from that sensor and then makes a digital signal for the fuel ecu for it know to run fuel pump and pulse injectors

connector pin drag test at terminals for crank sensor at Ignition CU and at the CKP sensor connector.
Does tachometer move while cranking engine over?
Does fuel pump run while starter is cranking engine over? OOPS that is a tough one on that car. The only way to know is with fuel pressure gauge since in-tank pump is too quiet to hear.

Did you replace CKP sensor to try to fix this current issue or in the past?

The tach did move the one time when I replaced the ICU and it briefly ran but now nothing again, the crank sensor was replaced with a junkyard one when it first happened and a new one yesterday

As said in the other Regina no start thread, check the contacts inside the coil. What codes do you get?
ECU, only a Regina one will work.

contacts are fine, I had a knock sensor code which I replaced and a lean or rich at idle which i've had all along. chasing wires now, old volvo tech looked at it and figured there was a problem in the harness somewhere, I have no power to fuse 13 so I'm starting there
