1999 S80 T6 CEM Replacement

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 T6 CEM Replacement

Post by tiggs »

Can anyone help with providing instructions including pictures for removing and replacing the CEM on a '99 S80 T6? It needs to be replaced and I want to save labor and purchase one of the rebuilds and have the software transferred to the rebuilt CEM. Thanks.

After ignition has been off for 5 minutes, disconnect (-) lead on battery.
Look by the diagnostic connector and remove the screws the diagnostic connector to dash.
The CEM has two "knobs" at top and a tab that latches at bottom left. Look for the white metal at bottom left and push and hold that to left while moving the bottom of the CEM towards rear of car. Once you have moved CEM 10 or so degrees it can slide down out of bracket as the stem of the knob will clear the slot it hangs in. Now the CEM can be maneuvered out from under dash and the connector removed. Take photos and make good notes and mark relays so you can put it all back where it belongs when you go back together.

Thank you. Do I need to be concerned about having the other modules lose their programming since the (-) battery terminal will be disconnected a week or so?

no, nothing valuable is lost. Anything lost is learned adjustment stuff that will take care of itself in use.
