sunroof cover replacement

Post by 850GLT-NA »

hello folks,

The cloth cover on my sunroof cover is peeling. I have removed the cloth, and now I have the cardboard sunroof cover exposed.

To remove it, I believe I'd have to tilt the sunroof and remove the 6 hex bolts (3 on each side), remove the glass, and remove the cover ...

Here's the issue:

I am trying to remove a clean replacement from the local junk yard, however, there's no battery/power hooked up to the parts car.

How can I tilt the sunroof manually with no power?

I know that I can remove the sunroof motor cover and remove the motor, but then what? Which gear do I turn, in which direction? Is it even possible to tilt the sunroof manually?

Also, is the installation of the glass roof as straight forward as replacing the 6 Hex screws or is there any adjustment required to get the sunroof to sit flush?

Thanks in advance :)

Tilting the sunroof will be a PITA without power. I would be inclined to take some 9 Volt batteries and hook the motor up to those to get the roof tilted up. 9 Volts will get the motor to turn, albeit slowly, but It will put a drain on the battery fast. I would take more than one.

Removing and replacing the glass is as straightforward as you describe and it will take some adjustment to get the glass panel back to the proper height. Note how flush the lip of the glass frame is with the roof before you remove it on your car so that you can get it back to the same place.
