Will never buy another V70XC

Post by billybobo »

I will never buy another Volvo again!

got mine with 127k on it. it has 152k at the moment.
Started with trans issues...we all know what they are.
Then transfer case issues...we know what they are.
Then 3 days after putting a NEW transfer case, NEW remanded rear pumpkin, front axles, transfer case sleeve, all new seals everywhere, all new control arms, and motor mounts. The transfer case blows again and 2 coil packs take a s* in the same day. (I only drive 6 miles to work) WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!
Oh and to top it off the CCU blew on me cause some dumbass designed a system that the key has to be on when you reconnect the battery.

Ive owned BMWs my whole life :D and have 3 with over 200k that are ALL original motors,Trans,rears,ect... and i autox them on a daily basis and beat the piss out of them and they have NEVER given me any issues like this Volvo has.

Its going up for sale for best offer... has good motor and a turbo with 20k on it. has all new what i listed... :D

DONE WITH VOLVO!!!!!

Considering I'm a ASE cert tech and have been working on cars since the age of 5. And professionally racing since the age of 14. I don't think so. I've never had a rear or motor or transfer case blow on me after 3 days of driving. VOLVOS ARE CRAP AND I BELIVE IT NOW. An I don't think it's possible to install a transfer case wrong. It only goes ONE way! Lmfao.

So you spent $1,500 on a new angle gear and it blew 3 days later?

Something doezn't add up.....unless of course it was a used unit and you were the unlucky recipient of a unit that had been neglected.

Were your tires exactly equal wear, brand and size?

Well, something is terribly wrong.
New parts will not fail like that and I've NEVER seen nor heard of either of those two pieces being bad out of the box.
As Mike said, if you installed used parts and now assuming, after you said you are a mechanic, that you did do the install correctly, then who knows.
Quite weird. I would not blame Volvo, not just yet anyway.

Not all angle gears have the same ratio but the ones with different ratios are identical and will bolt up.
Your car needs the 1:2.62 not the 1:3.31

ANother issue could be a locked viscous coupling that loads diff and angle gear

Nope the tranfer case came from Volvo (reman) can't get them new. The same with the rear. I did hear a whine for the first day. Figured it was the new case and rear wearing in. It stopped after the second day.
It's acting like it has a possi front diff, Is that a sign of the viscous coupling gone bad?

I took the driveshaft and transfer case out along with the rear half shafts and have been running fwd and its been ok so far.

I like the car (when it's not acting up) but I'm ready to take a backhoe to it lol.
