I have an oil leak on the front-driver side of S40 2001 Volvo. I realize this is not a very specific question, but I know little about engines. Oil leak first appeared after 250 mile road trip at high speeds. No leaks when doing short city driving at less than 50 mph. So, it seem high pressure(?) associated with driving for a long period at 70mph and hot Texas temp (100 degrees) could have 'popped' something. Please advise.

Welcome to MVS.
At idle, pull out the oil dipstick on a hot engine. Look for smoke puffing out of the opening - then give it a few revs and see if the smoke puffs out more OR goes away down the tube?
The PCV systems are a quite common repair with the Volvo FWD 4, 5, and 6-cylinder motors. They'll cause camshaft seals and sometimes crankshaft seals to start leaking oil because the excess pressure can't get out anywhere else.

hello. new to Volvos and the board. here's my experience. My 2000 s70 t5 leaked on the drivers side. Thought it was the rear seals due to pcv system being clogged. Had system replaced, and it still leaked. I removed spark plug cover and let idle. Found that one of the 10 mm bolts was loose and seeping oil. Tighten and problem solved.

To the OP...Is this a turbo car or a NA (normally aspirated)?

Hello MVS. Please let me clarify my post. I am new to Volvo . Not engines. Owned for 3months, started to leak. Suspected oil cap. Dealer said pcv. Replaced. Still leaked. Removed plug cover, let idle , found 10mm bolt loose. No more leak. I found this board after purchase, learned and used info. Decided to join the "cool kids in the parking lot". Just tried to give my short Volvo knowledge to help.
