I own an XC90 and I have the No Oil pressure stop engine warning popping out of my dash. If the engine is in motion the warning is NOT coming up; when I apply breaks or slow down the vehicle the warning light is coming up.
I check on the engine oil level and there is oil in the engine. I have also recently changed the oil pump. What could be causing this error and how to i correct it. If I continue running the vehicle, will i damage the engine?

The sealing rings on the oil pump pickup tube between pan and lower block or the sealing rings on tubes inside oil pan from oil filter housing to oil cooler have failed. The leak is lowering oil pressure and when engine speed is low the pressure goes low enough for low oil pressure switch to trigger warning.
OR you have bad bearings and it has oil pressure loss from that. The oil pump having been replaced was for what reason?

Thank you Jimmy for your response.
I was requested by the dealership to change the oil pump which he claimed malfunctioned. (I was not too comfortable with his suggestion but I to comply since I am desparate to have the car in perfect condition.)
The strange thing is that I am not losing any oil at all - the oil level in the engine normal.
Jimmy i will still ask this question if i continue to drive in this state, will the engine cease?

There is a chance of damaging engine. When the light is on there may not be adequate oil flow to vital parts.
What weight oil is run in the engine?
Does the oil light coming on when engine idles only occur when the engine is warmed up?

I am not sure of the weight oil.
The oil light will only come on after vehicle has moved a long distance (or engine has run for a long period) and only when I slow down. Yes, then the oil light will come up when the engine idles when the engine is warmed up.
