Depending on how much fluid is used, this could heat the fluid up to maybe 100 degress F (my guess). This could help melt the ice on the wiper blades. The risk is that warm fluid sprayed onto a cold windshield could crack it.

Any thoughts on how sucessful this might be?

It does get below freezing here in Northern CA during the winter and I did crack a windshield once pouring warm water on it. Would not recommend it. I actually wax my windshield with a very basic/generic Turtle Wax. You need to buff it very well however. Do not wax the blades or get it on black molding! I found this helps to keep it cleaner, washes easier and the blades slide much easier and cleaner when it rains.
