2006 S40 Power Steering Pump not starting

Post by orfeous »

EPS on my car does not want to start!
got a message telling me that the power steering needs service.

This happened a couple of times like a half year ago but dissapeard.. but now its back again..
and it seems its here to stay! haha

VIDA CODES: EPS-0021, EPS-0022, EPS-0071

Just bought a new battery from volvo so that isnt the issue this time.

Someone else got this too? :)
Any solutions or things to try?

There has been issues with the connections on EPS pump unit. The connectors plug on downward and water can enter and cause corrosion. IN the US there was a recall but I'm not sure how that was handled (if it was handled) in Sweden.
Plug is down below RH headlamp after lamp unit has been removed.

Went out today to my car and removed headlight... tried to see in the reservoir about the level but i couldnt see any "line" lighted it up with a flashlight also but.. and i tried also to unscrew it.. but it was really stuck :) so i gave up.

Checked also F2 80A fuse in fusebox and it was good, also the fuse in passenger seat. It was shared with ABS system and i have no issues with that.

Tried to locate the connectors and things down near the headlight but.. it was deep down and couldnt reach it.. found a thick red and black wire into a connector on a cylinder :)

so today was a fail :(
