Hi All,

After acquiring a one-owner '96 855R back in June I've been battling a few issues.

Image

Oil consumption more than 1qt/1000 miles

New Volvo OE PCV kit/hoses
New Volvo OE turbo drain line (???)
New Volvo OE intercoooler hose (the tree)
New intake elbow with sensor? Long plastic hose
New Volvo OE front O2 sensor
New Eurosport Tuning 3" downpipe with race cat.

When I bought it it threw an O2 code and cat code. O2 was fouled and cat was plugged up.

After changing PCV, oil no longer smokes out the dipstick.

Current issues:
Oil Consumption
Smoke on hot start. Drive car to operating temp, shut off for a few minutes to an hour, and get a good puff of blue smoke out of tailpipe.
I swear it's starting to smoke around engine bay. I'm wondering if it's hitting the manifold but when I'm in gridlock sometimes I can smell oil smoke, and swear I've seen just a bit of blue smoke coming from underhood.

Any ideas? Haven't pulled the 15G and honestly wouldn't know what to look for.

Gorgeous car and welcome to the forum.

Needs valve seals it sounds like. Unless there are huge amounts of oil in the intercooler hoses and it's coming back through the throttle body.

Underhood smoke - get under the car and look for wet oil. Clogged PCV system coulda weakened a seal or something. I've also screwed up a PCV installation where a clamp came off or hose blew up and leaked oil all over.

Look inside the Turbo with a flash light. If need be take a piece of blue shop paper towel or rag and wrap it around a flexible pickup tool and insert it. If there is oil you need to pull the Air Intake Duct to the Turbo and check for oil there also otherwise take a look at the linked article about engine oil viscosity as it is similar to your situation and there was a solution.

Yes, I was working on the Coolant Hose. Was afraid to bend it get that short hose on so opted to remove the Banjo. What A NIGHTMARE! BUT WAIT, why didn't I remove cotter pin to the Waste Gate Shaft :o  :( !!!! That is the Waste Gate right?

Thank you. I'll check the intercooler hoses and throttle body. I haven't had it on a lift in a while so need to get it back up. Wouldn't be a huge surprise if the PCV install was botched a bit but I've driven over a thousand miles since then.

Wow, that's funny!

Sounds easy enough and I'll check throttle body as well. Thanks!
