V6 cams wearing out

Post by w261w261 »

I've heard that my '85 V6 has, among its other problems, the tendency to wear out the camshafts. What would be the symptoms of this happening?
The car has 121,000 miles. Thx.

I haven't heard that this is a particular problem on these engines. Obviously if it has not been maintained/serviced as laid down by Volvo there could be a problem, but that applies to all engines.

Camshafts and rockers were a pretty common repair back in the day. The first sign is the "ticky-ticky" noises and then it will usually develope a rough idle. If it is really bad I have seen the cams seize, but that is pretty extreme.
