2002 V70 Upper Stabilizer Bar Engine Mount Bolts

Post by kymg »

I am about to swap the Upper Stabilizer Bar Engine Mount. The bolts are very firm and seem to require a fair bit of grunt to get them to move. I am reluctant to put too much into it for fear of breaking something.

So the question is is there any way I could make their removal easier? I am thinking of the ol' Penetrene/WD40 but I am not sure it would be successful or even wise.

Another question whilst I working in that area, relates to the the Mounts at each end of the bar. Should they have any wobble or should they be fairly stiff? I can grab the bar and move fairly easily which is made easier by the fact that the other Mount is not doing its job properly.

I am of the opinion that because the car has done most of it travelling in the city, the stop/starts and the flexing that puts on components would cause them to wear more quickly. The car has only done 49,000 miles.

Thanks BKM - it is not the correct diagram.

The bit that I am to replace is the B2544 equivalent of Part 13. This diagram is for a Diesel engine I think. I have the petrol job.

The other bit I referred to later is Part 2

Cheers

at times these are replaced and overtorqued by previous owner.

You need a breaker bar to loosen, and don't worry they won't brake.

Well I did my Stabilizer Mount this afternoon. Bloody snap to do - took me about half an hour from go to woah - tools out to tools packed away. The other mount was buggered - split and looking very sad for itself. Question - is it worth keeping the bracket and buying the rubber mount that goes inside for next time?

Now I suspect that the outer mounts have given up the ghost too and will need to be replaced.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I had a rattle in the back of the car, Well it would appear that I am otically dyslexic because my son said "Dad, it's coming from the front". So I suspect that I may have fixed my rattle. Life is good.

Well replacing the Upper Stabilizer Bar Engine Mount did not fix the clunk.

So here are the symptoms:

The clunk does 'feel' as though it is towards the rear of the car. I thought it was at the front.

It does not occur when the car is cold and appears after the car has been driven for a while. It is as if the bits that clunk have softened a bit and therefore prone to movement.

It occurs when I go over bumps.

It does not occur when I accelerate or brake.

So any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Check your strut mounts and sway bar end links. These are very "clunk-prone" when they start to wear out.
