Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Like I say I've lost oil pressure in mine so many times (I'd say at least 20) over the last three years (and 30K miles) and it still runs pretty damn good, considering that.

Run some xW-40 in there and see how it goes. You'll get a while out of it yet for sure... It's not worth digging deeper and you might still get 20K miles out of the motor.

Problem with that is mineral based oil will increase the risk of clogging up of the oil journals etc which may further affect oil pressure.

It's not the mineral oil itself, not even the oil change interval, it's the stupid crankcase ventilation canister that was killing those engines. That model of the PCV caused the same issues in other cars, BMW for example. Even people that used only synthetic oil with 4000 miles change interval had the engine clogged and busted. It occurs regularly every 80K miles, that's the life expectancy of the canister, actually that's when it's too late.

How about installing a real oil pressure gauge to monitor whats happening?

We did that at the first shop, that's how I know it's "barely sufficient".

The low oil pressure is established, what's causing it has not been conclusively determined, although I think the consensus opinion I've accepted after almost all the possible repairs have been done, is that the engine is simply worn.

You say your idle is below 700rpm? I don,t know those engines, but is that idle normal? On my S60 it's rather around 850 rpm. If the idle is too low, I guess oil pressure will be lower?

Is your S60 a 5cylinder? typically they idle higher as they are not as balanced as a 6. T6 should idle around 650-700 from memory.

Due to emissions requirements the P2 turbo 5 cylinder engines idle much lower at around 580rpm
