1990 Volvo 740, cracks on top of instrument panel

Post by Tomca »

Dear Sirs,

I have a 24 years old Volvo 740 GLE. A common problem at this car is that the black colored plastic parts are aging due to the sunlight. Due to this there are big cracks on the top of my instrument panel, under the front window. One crack is over the steering wheel, another one is between the two air-intake holes, the third one is at the right side of the right air-intake hole.

I know that there is a repair kit to vanish the cracks: there is a properly shaped plastic top part, knife and glue. You have to take out the air-intake parts, rub down the cracks, cut out the outstanding crack parts with the knife, put glue to the top, glue the new surface to the old one and at the end, put back the air intake parts.

There are companies, who sell many instrument board tops for many kind of cars, also for Volvo 740. But I forgot the name of the company, was recommended for me. I think I also don't know the right name of the instrument panel top, therefore I am unable to find it on the Internet (instrument board? Cockpit? Unfortunately, I don't speak so well English.)

Can somebody help me and send me a link?

Thank you in advance,

Tamas

Always use a sunshade in your front window. I put mine up every single time I park. Its become as automatic to me as putting on my seat belt.

Hello,

I am also doing that, but the previous owner of the car didn't do that for 15 years. So, it is too late :-(
