2000 XC70 Humming/Grinding sound

Post by edbrig »

I own a 2000 Volvo XC 70 with 190K miles. 6 months ago I began to hear a slight humming sound coming from the front passenger side of the vehicle. Since then the sound has become progressively worse. It is starting to sound real loud and bad. I thought it might be the wheel bearing (and still might be) so my diesel mechanic friend and I jacked up the car and shook the tire. No movement. I still feel like it is the wheel bearing. Has anyone had an experience like this or can you offer any help? I don't want to get Munsoned in the middle of no where!
Thanks,
Ed

When do you hear the noise?
It is easy to check the wheel bearings. Drive on highway on and exit ramps and listen.
