Hi,
The other day I read a code on my car using a pocket scan tool and the interior dome lights blinked twice. After that, I cranked my car and the A/C blower runs on medium to high all the time. The control knob won't control it. It even runs when the knob is at -0-. What did I break?
2004 S40 1.9T A/C blower runs on high all the time.

Well, now it doesn't work at all. It's right at 77 degrees F here today and a nice day for a window down, but I noticed that my A/C wasn't blowing at all now. I tried all controls, in all positions... no go. Has anyone had or does anyone know about this issue?

You say you read a code with a scan tool?
Is the code related to the problem and / or did you try clearing it?
You could try disconnecting the battery for 15-30 minutes then reconnect. That should reset the CEM and possibly resolve the issue. (make sure you have your radio security code handy for resetting however)

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes, I did use a scan tool to read and clear a code. The code was for the MAP sensor when it read a boost spike from a cooler night. I'll try resetting everything by the battery unhook. Also, I read something about a transistor going bad near the blower on these cars. The write-up said that it only costs $3 (?) for the new part if I know how to solder it in. The biggest problem would be getting to the part to fix. Has anyone heard of this problem?

*Repaired* I went to Radioshack and bought a transistor, part # 2N3055, and swapped it with the one that is on the sensor. The sensor is located on the front of the blower box. It wasn't too bad to get to but the top screw was hidden behind a metal brace under the glove box. Total cost was $3.20 and all runs good now.

My daughter is having the same problem on her 2002 S40. She said it went full blast then the next day didn't work at all. It's at an independent repair shop now who said they need to order parts. Where did you find out this information about the transistor?

Configsys,
Look at http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s40- ... ule-67765/
This one has good pictures on how to get to the part http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?p=1149982
After I removed the module, I went to Radioshack and bought a replacement transistor # 2N3055. The factory one is # MJ802. The small part that I replaced is round (about the size of a coin) and is attached to the module by two screws. I used the # 2N3055 from Radioshack because there was one right around the block from me. It works great and it was $3. Carefully getting to the part to remove took about 15 minutes and replacing the transistor on the module took about 20 minutes because I gave the module a good cleaning with a brush while it was out of the car. There is a metal brace that's in the way of the top screw holding the module in, but if you take the screws out of both ends of it you can pull it down and out of the way. I hope this helps. It was one of the best $3 I've ever spent.

Thanks so much. I wish I was there so I can make the repair myself but I'm 3500 miles away. I told her to take it to this Volvo Independent repair shop. They said they had to order a part and charged her $200.00. I guess it's not too bad. Thanks again!
