98 v70 No start when weather is cold

98 v70 No start when weather is cold

I am having a problem on very cold mornings, my car will not start. Come home after work and it fires right up. Replaced the battery and that was not it. Thinking it might the fuel pump not working when it is very cold (around 15 degrees f). Is this a common problem with a 98 V70? Thanks for any help.

I wonder if it is the ole' fuel pump relay? Will it start up and immediately die?

My 94 850 had been starting fine until last Tuesday when the AM temperature was around zero.I replaced the 103 fuel pump relay and that resolved the problem.My 98 S70 has the same relay.Look up 103 fuel pump relay in this forum,there is some great info on troubleshooting the relay.Good luck.

Yeah a good way to test the 103 relay is to pull it and bring it inside. If the relay is kept at room temp it should work fine when you plug it in.

I have had the same issue. I ended up taking to my mechanic who said it was the fuel pump. I'm replacing that tomorrow. We will see and I'll let you know. See my post under my user name.

I plugged in the new fuel pump. So we will see if it has an issue starting in the morning. Its supposed to drop into the mid 20's tonight. I am an early riser so Ill give it a shot.

Temperature was 23 degrees this am at 600am. I went out to start the car and it started and stalled. Si pulled the fuel pump relay, took it the house for about an hour and reinstalled it. Outside temperature was 25* and it started.

I had this issue on my first 850. It was a 95, and I had just had the clutch replaced so I thought it was a problem created during that repair. I am sure I came acoss the idea that the relay is prone to cold temperatures on the internet. That had be 10-12 years ago,so yes this is common on aging fuel relays.

Just ordered a new relay, hope this solves the problem.
