01' S60 POWER BRAKE BOOSTER

Post by LUINGOR »

Hi,
My car ( a 2001 volvo S60 (with 65 k miles)) has a problem with its POWER BRAKE BOOSTER since I always hear air is leaking out of the brake system after I start the car.
Do you have any idea abou this issue? how much to replace it? IS it dangeous to drive with the problem?
thanks

Bad design, they fail.
Had to replace one at 40K miles and also yes, change it NOW, very bad to continue driving as one day it may just bust open, no brakes!
I can't believe you would ask if it's OK to drive with a bad brake booster

Thanks a lot JRL.
Because the dealer told me it's not a big problem, now I know it's serious. But the dealer didn't tell me about when I bought the car, just second day after I paid for the car, the problem happened. Now they won't be responsible for the problem after I discussed this issue with the dealer many times. Do you have any suggestions?

Check the vacuum line from the brake booster...sometimes they get brittle and break or spring a leak somehow. You might be in for just some hose.

Let me get this right, they KNEW about a safety problem, sold you the car and TOLD YOU about it the next day?
I would file in small claims court tomorrow morning

Don't think that's what he's saying. I belive he said that 2 days after he bought it it went and then the dealer wouldn't do anything about it.

Anyway, the more I read here and "there" about '01's, I'm glad we don't have one. Seems that so many thing fail on them.

I appreciate you!
I heard the leaking sound just the 2nd day after I bought the car. So now I have no idea to deal with that issue. If I knew the problem, I wouldn't buy the car even with a lower price. The dealer won't do anything for me, is it fair for me? what can I do?

That's what waranties are for.
I sold one which arrarently had been leaking. You couldn't hear it for 20 minutes and since I didn't drive it 20 minutes I did not know it was there.
(It was handled by us for the customer)
