Very interesting!
All over the internet, people in different forums say the black plastic casing is "unremovable".
Well, you just proved that it is "removable".
Good to know, if I ever buy a Bosch, I will remove the black plastic casing!!!
I guess one must be slow and methodical during the removal process, so it does not damage the pump.

I don't own an AWD model, from what I understand, the plastic casing is different (the white plastic assembly) but the insert (Bosch 69693, about $90 on amazon) is the same for all these models 850, S/V70, AWD etc.cartagena wrote:I've purchased mine from IPD, $362.99. Its on backorder. For my 1998 Volvo V70 AWD.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Just thought I would add to this thread as I replaced my fuel pump today...
Since I hadn't seen anyone mention anything on how to remove the black plastic casing on the Bosch fuel pump, I figured I would chime in and offer my input.
From what I can tell, there is no way to "carefully" remove the casing. It just has to be broken off. I used a pair of pliers, snips, and a screwdriver. After that, I was able to put the pump right in place. I didn't have to replace the hose, wiring connector, or anything.
I haven't driven the car yet other than just starting and running it for a few minutes, but it seems to work well. Cars runs nice and smooth. The pump is very quiet like the factory pump, as expected from the Bosch.
