2000 S80 T6 Head Replacement - 6mm vs 7mm Valves

Post by Bluevanacd2005 »

I recently bought a 2000 S80 turbo someone ran low on coolant. It warped the head, and blew the headgasket. I bought another head on Ebay, (from the same year, make and model). After digging into both heads, I noticed the one from Ebay has 7mm valve stems, and the original has 6mm valve stems. Also, the lifters are different too. This worries me that there may be more differences between the two that I have yet to discover...

I did line the old headgasket up to the new head to check the bolt pattern - it seems to match up perfectly. The VVT is on the exhaust cam on both as well. Is it safe to continue with putting this head on, or are there more differences that I need to know about?

Thanks,

Spenser

You got a 99 head with 7mm valves and hydraulic tappets.
I have never done a head swap like that but I know of people who have and didn't have any problems.

Oh yeah the check engine light did come on though... At first it was for the VVT because I am assuming it had air in the system. So I cleared the code and it stayed off for a couple days.. The CEL came on again this morning, but now I can't get my adapter to talk to the ECU to see what the code is.
