If it passes the pre-purchase inspection, I would think between $5,000 & $5,500.

"Worth" is relative. What you might buy, or sell one for is different.

Agree with Phil. Whatever the worth is today, it'll only go up. One day there will be more T-5R owners and wanna-be owners than T-5R cars. Depending on how you define the term "T-5R wanna-be owner*", that day might already have come.

You can get a decent guide from the NADA site, including mileage adjustment, but you are off on the edge of the curve in mileage where there won't be 'real sales data' backing it.

If you are selling feel free to list here in the Classifieds Forum, and thanks for exploring pricing here and not there, per forum rules.

Reason I ask is because I recently totaled mine aftera old man decided to turn in front of me in an intersection. Progressive only offered me 2800 for it and I'm waiting on their second valuation. I'm also contemplating whether or not I should go the appraisal route for proper valuation.

Aaahhhh, the value of a insurance total and the resell value are two different species of animals.

Depending on what state you live in you will need to educate yourself on the process of appeal with your insurance company. Nada shows clean retail ( which is the top 10% of cars) price with mileage adjust is $4412, that will be hard to top out of the insurance company. Is current offer of 2800 including deductible? That's your negotiating room.

Depending on your state's laws and details of your policy, the "book" value may be totally irrelevant. In FL, for example, you have the option of valuing the car based on recent sale values of similar cars. Super handy if you are in dealing with cars collectible enough to be on auction blocks (of course, you would be a fool for not having a stated-value policy in the first place). I have been through this process twice in the past: with a Honda CRX Si and a MINI Cooper S JCW, both of which the insurance companies wanted to cash out with a rectally inserted roll of quarters. It took several months in each case to argue with them, including a nasty letter on a lawyer's letterhead in one case, but they finally agreed to pay nearly 300% their initial settlement offer. You have to be willing to fight. In my cases, I had truly special cars with detailed records and photos. A T-5R, especially an automatic, won't give you as much of a bargaining position.

I disagree on how hopeless it might be.

A T5-R is a legit collector's item, and yours is a rare low-mileage example at that. If you can show that it's in the condition you say it's in, with maintenance records and photos and whatnot, I don't see why you should settle for anything less than its full retail book value.

You may be able to get more. Start fishing around for ads for similar vehicles being sold, particularly T5-R models since there's only one year of them and they're coveted. I'm seeing 4500-6K just on a quick check right now. Throw all the documentation you can at them.

Where the nasty letter from a lawyer comes in is reminding them that their obligation is to pay what the car is worth, which is defined as what it takes to replace it. Stated value policies aren't a bad idea.

I got $4300, minus deductible, 2.5 years ago on my 97 GLT. I bought the "hulk" back for $283 and put it right back on the road for a $100 used fender, a $35 corner marker, and 10 minutes with a vice grip pliers straightening the corner of the hood. The rest went into deferred and preemptive maintenance. :) Quoting my mechanic, "they're outta their f*kin minds."
