Help!! 97 850 Transmission

Post by Black Bear »

I am trying to replace the S2 shift solenoid in my 97 850 and I cant get the lower right torx screw out of the pan. I am trying to access it through the drivers side wheel well. The clearance between the screw and the frame is very minimal. Anyone with any ideas? Any particular tool?

I really don't know what to say, but maybe a rachet with a swivel end will help. VADIS instructions are very unclear. It just says that if the resistance isn't right (10-15 ohms between the solenoid connector and the transmission ground terminal) to replace it. That's all. Oh, it does say to put a bit of petroleum jelly on the 0-ring when inserting the new one and to tighten the screws to 10Nm (7.4ft lbs).

Thanks for the response. I have all of the screws started off the pan except the lower right corner when looking at it from the front of the car. I have an allen type wrench that is a 40 torx and this seems to work but its only three inchs long and I cannot start the screw. I cannot put a cheater on it becasue it will hit the body of the car. I am now wondering if it is truely possible to remove this pan with the unit in the car or is their a procdure to jack up the engine and transmission?

Assuming I do get the screw out it does not look like I will have a lot of clearance to remove the pan itself either.

All thoughts would be welcome.

I have decided that it might be best for me to abort the mission and take the car to a shop that specializes in this sort of work. I will put it back together tonight.
