1998 V70 AWD No heat

Post by azeebabee »

I replaced the heater core and checked the ECC for proper air mixing door movement. I hear a 'gurgling' noise as if water with air in it is passing through the heater core but I only get heat if it sits with the ecc off then open the vents and it's warmish for a few seconds. How do I bleed the air from the system? Could it be a blocked heater hose?

I doubt that. How many miles since you replaced the core? Mine burped with 10 miles of driving. Added coolant the next day and that was it.

When I replaced mine a few days ago, I had good heat within 2 miles.

the coolant feed pipes to the heater core get hot but it only blows warm for a few seconds when you turn on the fan then cold air. Warmer by fay than the 7 degrees we have here in wisconsin but not hot.

Feel down by your feet on the driver side to see if hot coolant is reaching the core. You can pull away the kick panel and touch the pipes too...they will be hot, so touch quickly!

My guess is your temp blend motor is shot on your car and it's a climate unit problem

Both pipes get hot? Then you're getting flow.

How's the coolant pressure? Is the upper radiator hose getting firm?

Yes the hose gets firm. I notice that when I cycle the heater mixing doors that it blows a lot more air when set to cold than when set to hot.

A blockage in the air channel? Are you sure you put it back together right?

Was it an OEM or aftermarket core? Some of the aftermarket ones have a coating that needs to be washed off.

Aftermarket. But I checked with a flashlight in a dark room and didn't see any blockage. I can take it out and clean it as I haven't replaced the plastic panels as I wanted to make sure it worked before I put it completely back together

Do a search about it, but I believe you're supposed to wash it in a sink of warm soapy water.
