Can someone possibly help me understand why the check engine light comes on almost every time the gas cap is not put on tight enough? We have a 05 C40 and love the car but it is really frustrating to know that the check engine light comes on every time we take a trip and don't put the gas cap on tight enough.
I have talked to the dealer and they simply say that it will eventually go out? Is there anyway to reset the check engine light besides taking the battery cable off?
Thanks

Just make sure you give the gas cap a few clicks when you fill with gas...no big deal. You're getting a vacuum error from air leaking through the gas cap. If you're saying that you have to tighten it excessively, get a new rubber gasket for your gas cap. This problem happens with modern cars, Volvo or not.
