2000 C70 HT Coupe - SRS 412, Left SIPs bag - signal missing

Post by elav »

As the subject indicates I have a 2000 C70 HT Coupe and a couple of weeks ago the SRS light turned on. My OBD II couldn't read the code and I was hoping to be able to reset the SRS once I figured out the problem so I ordered an Autel MaxiDiag. The good news is the Autel MaxiDiag was able to read the code. The bad news is that while the menu supported the selection to reset the SRS and erase the code, when I tried this it indicated that this function wasn't supported.

Issue: SRS 412, Left SIPs bag - signal missing. This is a US car so I'm assuming that left means driver's side. It is also my understanding that this bag is in the seat. I did a search but didn't find any info on this in this forum.

Questions:
1. Can anyone tell me where the connectors are for this air bag? I have no interesting in testing the air bag but I want to make sure that the connectors are connected and there is no corrosion on the contacts.
2. When I start up the car the SRS light comes on, then switches off briefly and then comes back on. I'm wondering if "signal missing" is a different type of error code that once the signal shows up and reads "OK" if it will reset itself. I understand that faults don't clear but wondering if missing is different than a fault.
3. I believe I saw a brief mention that the wires can break due to the seat moving a lot. If this is true, where do I look to see if this is the issue?

Thanks in advance!

Under the seat orange wire with green two prong micro plug. No it wont go out once the car is turned on with a fault somewhere its registered and needs to be reset with an ABS scanner.

OK, here is an update - seeing as I couldn't reset the fault myself I decided to bring my car to the mechanic. He said that he unplugged the plug (pointing generally to the front seat area) and plugged it back in. When he started the car, the car didn't find the fault and turned the SRS light off (so no reset required). He keep the car for 3 days and the SRS light stayed off. Because he didn't find the exact cause he didn't charge me. Well, it stayed off for 3 weeks and now it is back on. I'm guessing that the connector needs to be cleaned for it to stay off permanently. I've decided that I'm going to attempt this myself. So, can someone confirm that the plug for the side airbags in the seat is centrally located at the front edge of the seat with a green plug? I just want to make sure I have the correct plug that Osman identified. Also, I DO know that Volvo plastic tends to be brittle and loves to break. Can someone describe how to unlatch this plug? Is it simply pulling on it or is there a tab that should be lifted up with a screw driver or knife? I really appreciate any guidance as I want to get the SRS working again!

Update - found wire was broken where the seat pivots forward. Replaced airbag with new one and with the fault fixed the Autel was able to erase the SRS code.
