1998 V70R AWD Transmission. Use 98 XC trans for replacement?

Post by casey »

I need a working transmission for my 98 V70R AWD. Is it possible to swap in a 98 V70 AWD or 98 V70 XC cross country AWD transmission? I know 99 and up are different but if you swapped bevel angle gears could you use another 98 AWD or XC transmission/transaxle? There are several XC cross country & AWD transmissions local to me, but as we all know the 98 V70R is rare. I've searched the forums but found conflicting information. Thanks for any help.

Yup, same final drive ratio and same AWD setup. It'll bolt right up.

With two sensors changed the 99 and 2000 AWD 4 speeds also work.
The two speeds sensors are analog on 98 and digital on the 99 and 2000.
