v70 mk2 droplinks

Post by grapefruit »

Hi fellow members I am in need of some advice regarding my v70 mk2 year 2002. I have purchased new drop links front and rear and have asked my local garage if they would fit them for me while my car was in for a m.o.t and service, they have quoted me 2.5 hours labor at 50 pound an hour ex vat this is on top of the mot and service at 150 pound. Is the time quoted correct. I am a novice when it comes to working on cars. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. many thanks

2.5 hours seems like a little much for this job, but if it is anything like in the US, you can't really do much about it. They use guide lines that are either from a book or in their computer that tells them how long it will take.

Having done the job it's as simple as pie as long as they're torqued back up to correct specs.

Each one takes around 15 mins tops so 1 hour. So easy on a hoist!!

Many thanks for your replies....i will phone a couple more garages for quotes so i can compare. The garage i use is normally very reasonable and honest and services my fathers car. Once again thanks for your replies i will let you know the outcome.
Many thanks

You can certainly shop around to see if you can get a better deal somewhere, but I kind'a doubt it.
Most shops ain't too keen on mounting your parts as they usually make a profit on the parts, so they simply looked for the kind of money they think they need to make on the job & slapped it all on the labor, most places will do just the same.
If you don't want to do the work yourself, look around for a shop that's knowledgable on your brand of car & does quality work for a reasonable price & take all your work there, they usually are happy about return customers & will give you better prices & service the more often you come.
If you want to take advantage of rock-bottom prices for parts online, you will have to fit them yourself to still have a deal once everything is over.

Hi fellow members, i have had a fantastic result regarding the costing to fit my droplinks.
Another garage has offered to fit both front & rear sets for £48.00 inc of vat , that is a massive saving of £102 plus he is doing my mot and service cheaper inc vat. He is a very well established mechanic with years of experience. He will now have my continued business just wished i had tried him earlier.
Many thanks to all that have helped and advised with my enquiry. Keep up with the great work and website forums.
All the best.

Easy job indeed, make sure you get the right drop link brand. If I am not mistaken it is ZF that makes most of the suspension parts for Volvo (and BMW). They trade under: Sachs, Boge, Lemfoerder and ZF.
These parts should fit fine and hold as long as the Volvo branded stuff. Meyle used to be ok but has been dropping in quality for quite some time.
