I got my car out of the shop....here is what I had done and now...my outcome.....
New parts:
ETM OEM volvo unit....I asked before the purchase if all the bugs have been worked out on the OEM replacement and he told me yes.
Once unit was in, he test drove it and said it drove great....He told me to monitor the car as he thinks there is something else wrong....he cleared the codes and said it was driving clean....no codes
What happened when I drove it....It drove for about 45 minutes and it was....great.....then on my way home ...limp home mode......after driving for awhile I got the brake and abs lit up....I also lost the speedo, odometer and the info instrument panel was all - - - - -
It has been recommended to clean the ECU contacts....Has anyone tried this?
Prior to this the volvo shop said the ecu unit is throwing codes software mismatch and etm codes...I agreed to replace the ETM as this is a known time bomb and there were 3 codes for the ETM....
ETM REPLACED AND NOW......
oops ...left that out...matty moo sent me one ( I have had a rebuild since 2010 from Victor Rocha) and the symptoms were the same with a rebuilt unit from MM...so I sent it back...he wasnt able to pull any codes on the unit I sent back.....The volvo shop said there were codes on the unit....so ...another ABS mod...I guess I will get another....but what about the Speedo and tach dropping?

The other abs module should still be under warranty, send it in and have him pull codes and test it. I didn't get anything out of either of the two modules that I tested as far as I remember, if the mechanic found codes he should have given them to you.
you have an underlying electrical issue, there are just too many different things going on. Just my opinion, I can't see the car.

I am researching removal of the ecu and and cleaning of the connections on the unit. I did remove the dash last year ...and when I picked it up...one of the bulbs on the tach....wasnt working...so i smacked the dash and BINGO it started working.....the car is a CA car and I garage it every night.....very clean....I was in an accident in 2011 and they totaled it ....but I had it fixed and it has been great ever since...here is a pic....of the damage...it was fixed by a shop and I sourced the parts all oem volvo body parts....no mechanical needed...

If you can get things working by smacking the dash I would undoubtedly pop the dash pad and check the connections to the cluster. I would also triple check all of the large connectors that were touched when the dash was removed.

I don't think so, but for where you are at with it I would be willing to try everything and anything.
