A couple of weeks ago I swapped the fog globe for the brake globe on the S60 I sold because the right brake light was coming on intermittently. The brake globe was blackened and the contacts were flattened.
The on panel display wasn't picking up on the error, even though on my project '01 XC it's very picky if a globe isn't lit.
Does anyone know which factors affect the system's ability to pick faulty globes on P2s? My '01 XC has every different brand of globe in it being a 13 y.o car. I understand there's slight impedance differences between brands of globe that may affect the diagnostic process but that doesn't explain the XC.....

That bulb should have been trashed or recycled, not swapped. Now the fog light will be erratic to following drivers in poor visibility.precopster wrote:A couple of weeks ago I swapped the fog globe for the brake globe on the S60 I sold because the right brake light was coming on intermittently. Never rely on the car to tell you about faults. Just check them regularly as laid out in "Tips!" Any other warning is a bonus.
Bulbs can fail in different ways, many which will "read" normal to the car when they are not. It might have been the bottom filament connection (as mounted) broke, making contact and working at rest, but would "tail wag" if you hit a bump making intermittent contact. Loose or corroded connections at the various places can have similar symptoms. Some filaments and roll around so they'll pass a continuity test, but now a "does it light up" test. When in doubt, toss it out, if putting in a good bulb fixes the problem.
