Bulb failure

Post by ooster »

2002 S60 - The other day I got a message "Bulb Failure - Position Marker" I check the lights, and the left license plate light was out, as were the two side marjer lights. I replaced the license bulb, and it is now working. I also checked the 2 marker bulbs, and they work, but it looks like they're not getting any voltage.

I bought this S60 used, and it's had a front end accident, and I can't remember whether or no the side markers were working when I bought the car. I do know that the warning message just started showing up.

Where should I look first to fix this?

BTW The fuse (which looks like it's for the marker lights and the klicense bulbs) is fine.

Thanks!

Test at the bulb holders with a multi-meter or test lamp for 12v.

Without it getting any juice to the sockets I would check the fuse...not sure which one it is but the fuse panel is under the dash insert accessable when you open the driver's side door.

Bulb holders were checked, no voltage. Well it did move from zero and register a volt or so, I'm guessing that's due to the monitoring system.

The associated fuses are probably #30(lh marker) and #31(rh marker & license) both fuses are intact, and both fuses are getting 12v. I know these fuses control the corner marking lights, but I'm not sure they also supple current to the side markers right in front of the doors, which are the ones I'm having trouble with.

The bulb sockets are not receiving 12v.

Odd that the two markers appear to be on different fuse circuits, yet both are not working. It makes me think that the problem is with the wiring.

Does anyone have a wire diagram?

The owner's manual does label these lights as side markers. However, Vadis says they are side indicator flashers. Therefore, they will work with the indicators. Certainly that is the set-up on my neighbours UK S60.

Hope this solves the problem.

Well I wish I would have asked earlier. Would have saved an hour or so!

Oh well, I learned a bit about the S60.

Thanks!
