So basically 4 ft of this stuff http://m.oreillyauto.com/mt/www.oreilly ... &ppt=C0222

The gasket
Some clamps

Now when the list says short hose to top of engine block, and hose to top of engine, do I need to order those or can the fuel like be used for that as well?

Thanks!

The link doesn't work for me but if it is Green Stripe heater hose, it will work. Or fuel line. The key is, it should not be very floppy because you have to make a 90 degree bend with it under the intake manifold, you don't want that to collapse later on and get kinked. The cheap heater hose is floppy, ask to feel it, compare it with what you are buying.

You are still not listing the other kind of hose, you need like 3-5 feet (is your car turbo or not?) of 5/16 vacuum line, this can be standard vacuum line.

5/8 hose
5/16 vacuum line
gasket
clamps

PLUS these 3 must be ordered, get Volvo brand or be disappointed:
- 8653339...Short hose to engine block... qty = 1; $5.85
- 1271653..Short hose to engine block... qty = 1; $8.76
- 1271654..Hose to top of engine... qty = 1; $21.24

Sorry to keep rehashing this, I just want to make sure I don't order the wrong stuff and have an issue when I have my car aken apart this weekend. So this is the list of parts in the PCV kit for the Volvo.

This Kit Includes:
Part
SKU
Brand
MSRP
1x Engine Intake Manifold Gasket 9146266 Reinz_logo $16.86
1x PCV Oil Trap 9146756 Genuine-volvo_logo $34.10
1x Crankcase Vent Hose 9146757 Genuine-volvo_logo $37.35
1x Crankcase Vent Hose 9125598 Genuine-volvo_logo $58.46
2x Hose Clamp 976584 Genuine-volvo_logo $3.18
2x Hose Clamp 977964 Oem-supplier_logo $4.28
1x Hose Clamp 977178 Oem-supplier_logo $4.99
2x Hose Clamp 976561 Oem-supplier_logo $4.13
1x Flame Trap Kit 23439602 Pro-parts-sweden_logo $12.50
1x Crankcase Vent Hose Pipe 946233 Genuine-volvo_logo $7.65
1x Crankcase Vent Hose 8653339 Genuine-volvo_logo $8.12
MSRP (bought separately): $203.21
Our kit price: $165.71
You save: $37.50

So I am getting a gasket, but I will be getting 1275055 since that's the Volvo one.
I see that the "short hose to engine block" 8543339 so I'm adding that to my cart.
1271654 and 1271653 aren't listed in the kit, and when I search the site they don't show part # for my vehicle, so I presume that those 2 are for a different model? So I'm trying to figure out which other two pieces I need, any tips on this?

Thanks!

Couple things..

1. You need to re-read the link we posted above re what is necessary and what is not.
The oil trap: re-use it.

2. Manifold gasket: Volvo only. No Reinz.

3. Re PPS brand, do a google search and you will be back to Volvo brand.

Take a pencil and paper and read through that 5/8-inch hose mod thread please!

No worries, you are smart to want to figure it out before you buy, and be all set when you dig in to do the job.

I am not sure which vendor site you are searching but those part numbers are all correct, they are all for your car (97 850), and you need all three of them. Here are the three parts at FCP, their prices are slightly higher on genuine Volvo parts than some of the online dealer sites but their customer service is still A-1 fantastic.

Erik, I am glad you were able to read thru that post and find my actual questions, I realized after cn90's last post that I put way to much useless info in that post and I was going to try to rephrase it today. In any case I'm going to go ahead and order this stuff today then, I really appreciate both of you (erik & CN90) for providing the extensive information I need.

Another note,

Many many years ago, dealer parts cost more than online vendors.
That is no longer true, as many Volvo dealers now have websites selling OEM parts at very very competitive prices.

The aftermarket parts are hit and miss in terms of quality and consistency.
When it comes to a job that is very time-consuming like PCV overhaul, stick to Volvo parts, unless you want to do the job twice.

As I mentioned above, I bought my parts from an online Volvo dealer for very good prices.
There are many Volvo dealers, but the online dealer I use is from Kansas City...

http://www.thevpstore.com

You may want to print the list of parts you need, swing by your local Volvo dealer and see if they can match the prices. This saves you the shipping cost b/c your local dealers ship tons and tons of Volvo parts in everyday (I think from their HQ in New Jersey???) for their repair jobs.

Another note for junemann1,

You have a 1997 850 NA, I have a 1998 S70 GLT.
There are minor minor differences.

The NA engine has a flame trap at the rubber intake boot. It tends to clog with time, I may be wrong but most people here get rid of it and simply open the rubber intake boot once every few years to clean it.

junemann1,

I will recap it for you.

* I also wrote a DIY for NA engine below:
https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =1&t=28334

* Do this on a Saturday and have a bicycle or 2nd car in case you need to run to the local autoparts store for odds and ends (clamps, vacuum hose ---> should get the thicker type to prevent collapse under vacuum).

* Parts needed. I copy and paste here, for up-to-date pricing, plug the PN in Volvo website.
RED font means you don't need it!

- Heater Hose with ID = 5/8”, $6 for 6-foot roll at Advance Auto Parts.
- 956561...Oetiker clamp...qty = 4; $1.94 x4
- 976584...Oetiker clamp...qty = 2; $2.00 x2
- 977964...Oetiker clamp...qty = 2; $2.58 x 2

- 8653339...Short hose to engine block...$5.85
- 1271653..Short hose to engine block... qty = 1; $8.76

- 1271654..Hose to top of engine... qty = 1; $21.24
For this part, heater hose will not work here because of twist and turns.

- 1271988...Oil trap $29.88 ---> DON'T buy it: Clean and re-use it!

- 9146266...Intake manifold gasket... $13.86

---> 9471644...piece of junk, save $40 for beer! DON'T buy it: Use heater hose and good vacuum hose as a modification for this part.

Altogether, it should cost around $75 for Volvo OEM parts.

but cn90, see this note along the lines of your previous post, about the part numbers you list:

I had some PM correspondence with junemann1, we figured out that what he ran into on the FCP site is that Volvo sells different oil trap part numbers, and different trap-to-cover and trap-to-block hose part numbers, for turbo versus NA. So for the part numbers cn90 and I suggested, the FCP site says "these don't fit your car" (they fit turbos, not NAs). That was the basis of junemann1's last few questions about part numbers. I was actually not aware of these differences, I have never paid attention to that detail even though I have both repaired both turbos and NAs, and likely swapped PCV parts between them. So the small differences in the Volvo branded hoses (and perhaps in the plastic portion of the traps) may or may not be important to getting a set that all fits together well, I really can't say. I know that if you buy aftermarket they just sell one set of hoses and traps for all the cars and I think those all fit fine (although they may fall apart), which suggests the differences are not important.

Since junemann1 is re-using his factory oil trap, he is better off getting the alternative part numbers for the trap-to-cover (instead of 1271654, get http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-c ... ap-9146757) and trap-to-block (instead of 1271653, get http://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-c ... -1271771oe) hoses.
