2004 XC90 Blower Motor removal

I'm been hearing my blower motor make some different noises and it has remained on (full capacity) even when the engine has been turned off.
Based on various articles I'm aware that it does do this for a short period of time for evaporation, but I'm believing the guidance that the blower motor or resistor is failing.
Net net, i will replace them both.

Question: There appears to be lots of content with regards to other models of volvo and how to remove the blower from them. But does anyone have a specific link for blower motor removal on an xc90.
Also, I'd rather not have to remove the dash OR break any components on removal of the blower. Is there is any guidance on how to manage that, it would be appreciated.

I'm at the point where I was able to remove all the screws of the blower motor, but it appears that the sound proofing material is getting in the way of the blower motor simply falling out. This appears different than any other volvo model tutorials, hence why something xc90 specific would be great confirmation to have. I'm assuming that I have all the screws removed (4 in total), but because its not failing down correctly, I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Extraction should be simple, no?

As much as Volvo appear to want to make it difficult to change this part, I can't imagine that they would impart this level of suffering on their own mechanics. :) This should be easier, unless there's a tip or guide that I'm missing.

Any thoughts from experience would be appreciated.

I don't have a XC but on mine the blower had 5 screws, one of them completely in the rear and hard to access but visible non the less. Also, the sound proofing material was in the way as well, but there is a way to giggle it and pull it out of there. Or you may just cut through it and glue it back.

Without removing the dash( what were the engineers thinking) you will not be able to gain access to the last screw( 5th screw). Many have tried ,as I did and failed. The last tab that holds the blower motor in, is the one that has to be broken to allow the motor to be removed if you want to take the short cut. Some have suggested using a little silicon upon new installation, near the section with the broken tab

More force is required than I felt happy about, it eventually it did break and the the blower motor was removed with some colourful language and manipulation. I replaced the resistor as well at the same time as it cannot be accessed without the motor being removed first. ( The 850 was a piece of cake compared to this)

My symptoms were the same as yours and the replacement of both items solved my issues

There are a few posts floating around that give a good bit of detail…one that does the whole dashremoval and another that does the short cut…...if you do a search you should find it no problem.
