I've done the flush and fill with 850s and V-70s but not the S-80. Can someone tell me which hose is the outlet (on the cooler inlet)?
I plan to use 12 qts with a short drive at midpoint. Is this enough?

I just did mine 2000 s80 ,replaced filter and the fluid a day ago ,in your case for just flushing ,you must have two new O rings and auto.trans.hose retainer a green clip for the trans cooling hose that attach to radiator. It is locate at just above the lower radiator hose(on mine, hope your is the same). You need to remove a small splash guard the one between bumper and subframe. To remove it ,there is one bolt 10mm each side and two plastic tabs in the front, you need flash lite to see the tab,use screwdriver to push up and release it.I think you know the rest of what to do,because you did on some Volvo.I used 15qts.for flush and drain out.It was dirty.I just found out there is a youtube video how to change trans.fluid on1999 s80 turbo, the website name "volvosweden".

Thanks for the information. Today I received the ATF (Mobil 3309) Instead of doing it by the hose I went to "old fashioned" way and dropped the pan, cleaned the magnet and pan, changed the filter and added all new fluid. Took it for a short drive and all is well. Hope to get a longer one in tomorrow if weather allows. I'll do another fluid change before summer.
I ordered everything through Amazon, linked with MVS. Best prices and reasonable delivery.

Well, that would be a nasty surprise! I'll get out the owners manual and see. If that turns out to be the case then I'm very indebted to you.
I don't know how much difference it maakes, but the original transmission was replaced in 2005.
I have plenty of both kinds of fluid (Dev IV and 3309) , so I'll get into it tonight.

Yep! Dex III. Guess Ill do another drain and fill tomorrow.
My owner's manual clearly states Dexron III. Should have read it.
Since Dex III isn't available any more I'm using Dex VI. Castrol says it is fully replaceable for Dex III.

Yep only the AW55-50SN, AW55-51SN & the newer TF80-SC take 3309.
All the others like AW50-42 & the GM 4T65E take Dex III or Dex IV.
