1999 S70 base non-turbo.
I've owned my Volvo almost two years and have always had this closed off hose from my coolant tank.
Is this supposed to be connected to something?
Thanks in advance for any input.

Looks like they took a bottle from a different model car so they plugged that end.
The strut mount caught my attention. Who made a mess out of that?

That is the correct bottle and power steering reservoir for a 99/00 the hose that is plugged should go to the metal coolant pipe that runs across the back of the engine, if you follow that power steering pipe to the back of the engine (in your first picture) the coolant line should be somewhere close to where the metal fitting on the end of the power steering pipe is located - Mike

My 99 doesn't have that but it's a turbo of course. The metal pipe in back is fed from a hose dropping from the rear of the reservoir. This hose looks like a return coolant hose of some sort since it's mounted in top, nest ce pas?

I was wrong earlier about the expansion tank being the right one for the car, it should look like this:

The hose from the top of the bottle dives off to the radiator, the other hose goes from the bottom of the bottle to the metal coolant line at the rear of the engine, just look for the red DO88.SE hose in the picture, ignore where the brake servo is as mines a UK car:

Another view showing the lower pipe (just)

Thanks Mike
To Ashlee...notice that Mikes reservoir actually has the molded cutout for the extra hose without the fitting. I'm sure you have a reservoir from some other Volvo. Just make sure that plug stays nice and tight. It's important that your cooling system has pressure in these cars.

Thanks guys.. I figured it wasn't supposed to be connected to anything because I haven't had any issues with my cooling system, but just wanted to make sure.
rspi- I had my struts done less than a year ago at my cousin's shop. They seem to feel fairly decent still.

The struts just look different because they are aftermarket i.e. Gabriel all-in-one pre assembled.ashlee2319 wrote:Thanks guys.. I figured it wasn't supposed to be connected to anything because I haven't had any issues with my cooling system, but just wanted to make sure.

Someone put the reservoir for T8/V8 engine in your 5-cylinder engine.
No big deal, the difference is an extra port which is already capped per your photo.
