2007 volvo v70

Post by meteg »

Hello,

I bought a Volvo v70 turbo '07 a year ago. the problem I am having is in this 1 yrs of period the A/C freon was dumped. everytime the system was checked there wasnt any freon left and the last one was 2 days ago. the fan was working full speed like car was overheated. but there was no overheating issue. the system was also checked at dealer and no leaks were found. I am stumped..

any ideas?

thanks

Checked how?
Filled with R 134 with dye additive, then you came back after a couple of days of A/C usage to look for the leak with a black light?
That's THE only way to check for leaks

If they did that, I too would be stumped, if not, they're incompetent.
How many miles?
This is not normal for this generation of Volvos I've never seen one actually have leaks.
Did they look at the condenser carefully/ That would be the only thing that should leak if a large stone or rock hit it

+1 The only way to find A/C leaks is to fill the system again with R134A which has an inbuilt dye, then look for leaks with an ultra violet light at least a couple of weeks or 1000 miles later.

R134a sold in North America does not have dye. You can buy cans with dye or add dye separately. I have no idea how this is handled in Turkey.

That car would have been charged at factory with dye so a blacklight may find the leak now.
The connection to expansion valve is in firewall with a two part cover over the lines. That has been a place they can leak that will not be seen without the cover being removed.
The condenser, as JRL mentioned, is a common place to leak due to impact damage.

thank you for the replies. the car has 125,000 kms. also the car has no impact history well maintained. no replaced parts, no dtc's stored. I will have the locations mentioned checked...

I finally removed the condenser which I tought is the culprit of my problem. I waited till the Freon was dumped and saw that the condenser was seriously damaged.the fins, the holes and there were stains.I installed the new one and took it to A/C recharge station. now the car seems problem free.I will keep on observing the car and if it stays problem free then no doubt that I have solved the issue.

thanks for all the comments.
