2000 Volvo S80 IMMOBILIZER

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

One other thought based on a lot of Internet research when my car wouldn't start (the CEM was shutting off the fuel pump but no immobilizer warning) You may be getting conflicting signals to the CEM from your siren module because the rechargable batteries are dead, or are eating up the curcuit board. Try deliberately setting off the alarm and if the lights just blink, but no siren, that could be the cause. Volvo says the batteries are good for 5-6 years, so mine are well overdue. Replacement of the siren module is about $500, or you can get the part for about $250. There's a debate about whether or not it needs to be programmed with VIDA. Officially yes, but several owners on a UK Volvo site have done DIY projects and didn't need to program the siren module. I'm going to replace mine soon, so I'll document the process and report back. -Reid

I found that if the wrong key or the key cannot be confirmed by cem, it will crank the engine over, the ecu or ecm powers up, you will get spark and everything else except no injector pulse. I found it gets constant power to all 6 injectors and that it uses ground to firing them. I know the fuel pump works and it dont shut down. I put a fuel pressure guage on manifold and shows proper pressure when you crank the engine. If you spray starting fluid in throttle body, engine runs. I bought this car not running for $800. Its in great shape and the guy was able to jump starter relay so I could comfirm engine wasnt lock up. Thought it will be easy enough to get it running by bypassing this and hill billing that . But no!!!! Between going to the dealer and for them guessing it was a key and tried to flash module(s) which nothing worked it costed me $500 there. Then I placed an ad on Craigs and found a guy in PA who works at volvo dealer, has a bunch of all kinds of volvos sitting in his yard I was able to grab the ignition lock cylinder w/key, cem, ecm and the instrument cluster. It runs great, actually Im impressed on how this car handles the road , the speed , torque , and gas mileage etc. It handles the snow great. And the speedometer shows it can do 160.. Well, it does 160. However i have no blinkers, no heated seats, moon roof dont work, and some other things dont work. But when I had the other modules installed that came originally when i bought the car, all features worked. Just the car wont run. I was thinking of taking my volt meter and see what wire(s) get power or ground with immobilizer connected and what wire does not get it and then feeding it the hill billy way and then put the modules back in that the features did work and see if it will run. Actually before doing all that, I was reading online and from talking to other people that at the vida machine has a recalibrate feature that may wake up the modules. Is this true? Or that there is a way to erase and reflash cem to help make that stuff work again. Can someone help me to confirm this and if so where can I go to who is willing to help me try. Im in Cleveland, Ohio 44109. And fuck Montrose Volvo on Brookpark Rd. But if its a software that reades the key then the hilly billy way of wiring ecm for ground and or power wont work.. Hopefully you guys can help me.. Thx..

In the remote car-starter aftermarket, there are products that fool the CAN into thinking everything is a-ok with the immo. function.

The ones I have seen that trick it actually use an extra key to duplicate the signal up by the ignition. I.e. you put your key in the remote starter (concealed somewhere under the dash) and it reads the code and duplicates it through a loop of wire you hide behind the trim around the ignition switch. Granted this was just a cheapie remote car starter, there is probably something better out there.

My 2002 XC70 has the same intermittent problem. I paid $ to an online service and was told to disconnect the negative battery terminal for at least 10 minutes, and reconnect. Lo and behold the problem went away for 6 months. It's back now and the battery trick won't work. What has always worked is to activate the panic button on the remote and then deactivate it. The car then will start. The local dealership and my independent Volvo specialist garage are clueless as to what it could be.

Also did everyone elses check engine light come on after ??? Any help is appreciated!! It now starts but I am fearful of breaking down (stalling out) again!!! I live out in the boondocks and its quite a walk if I get stuck!
